„Innovative tree shelters made of renewable ressources and prevention of plastic littering in forests“
Home
Tree shelters are used to protect young trees. They are intended to prevent browsing by wild animals as well as to promote growth. In forest estates throughout Germany tree shelters are used up to millions of newly installed items per year. Unfortunately, conventional tree shelters are made of plastic and remain largely in the forest ecosystem due to a lack of removal after they have accomplished their duty. In climate change, we estimate a rising need for tree shelter due planting of rare and palatable tree species, close-to-nature reforestation, forest conversion and more extreme weather events followed by bark beetle infestations.
The project TheForestCleanup is therefore developing innovative tree shelters and setting up efficient concepts for the removal of conventional tree shelters made of plastics.
